A Few Random Thoughts About Trolls World Tour

So.

A bit ago I sat down to watch Trolls World Tour and I really really loved it. I really enjoyed the story the movie was telling, I loved Barb and her relationship with her dad, King Thrash, and Riff. I love meeting Prince D, Queen Essence, and King Quincy. Watching Poppy and Branch through the film was so much fun as well!

I could talk about the animation as well. The world looks so amazing with all the details. The desert was made of golden glitter and rode Branch, Poppy, and Biggie walked on was knitted or quilted or something. It looked amazing! I’m still blown away by what I watched.

I did like the music of the first music and the Holiday special more than the music here, but the music here wasn’t bad. I feel like the movie needed to be longer in order to give all the music genres more time to shine, but I did like what I heard.

The main thing I really liked about this movie was that Poppy and Barb are kind of like mirrors to each other. Throughout most of the movie, Poppy kept saying that “it didn’t matter that they were different” and that “they were all trolls”. This comes off as naive like Poppy doesn’t think through the implications of that line of thinking.  It’s even showcased when she says “oooh, they must not know music is supposed to make you happy…” when she stumbles into the country tolls lands.

It comes off to me like a privileged white girl traveling to an “uncivilized” part of the world and condescendingly talking to the people who live there. It usually not meant in an actively malicious manner, but it’s still a terrible thing to say.

Poppy, in the beginning, wanted to smooth over everyone’s differences. Queen Barb wanted to control everyone, believing that once everyone was under her control and interested in the same music that things would be better. Its interesting to see how similar and different the two are.

Branch doesn’t get much to do this time around. I think they could have pushed the “Poppy doesn’t listen” a bit more, but I love Branch so I do like seeing him around and bounce off the new characters.

Trolls World Tour was a fun movie and I think kids will like it a lot. I’m not sure about adults or older kids, but for myself, it was worth the $20, I know some people don’t like that price, but I think it’s fair.

Just some random thoughts.
