A Look at Character Design: Kirara Amanogawa (Part 1)

Hey, I’m back with another look at a character design! This time I’ll be looking at one of my favorite Cures from one of my favorite seasons!

Today I’ll be looking at Kirara Amanogawa, aka Cure Twinkle from Go! Princess PreCure!

Her civilian look:

Well, her first civilian outfit. Kirara has a bunch of cute outfits, which makes sense since she’s a fashion model. I’m going to try to look at her summer and winter outfits, but I can only screencaps of those so I might miss some details.

Anyways, the first thing I would like to note is that I think the colors used here are great. The yellow is eye-catching without being overpowering. The two-tone, high-waist shorts are very stylish and the muted shades complement her top very well. Her shoes, headband, and earrings are nice as details as well.

I don’t know what one would call this color combination but I know yellow and purple are complementary colors, while yellow and green are right next to each other on the wheel so…analogus and complementary? Not too sure.

Kirara’s outfit here does a good job of showing off her stylish and slightly mature personality, as well as the fact that she’s a bit difficult to talk to at first. She’s less mature than Minami and more mature than Haruka. She’s a good middle ground and this outfit shows it.

This outfit (with cameos from all the other girls) doesn’t have the most interesting color combination. But it’s still a nice one.

The ruffle top and jean combo is very cute and gives Kirara a more girlish look and feel. I think this works best with the development of her personality; being more open and warmer with everyone.

Again, this is a cute outfit. The yellow is the same shade as the yellow from her first outfit and complements the orange of her stockings nicely. Her headband is yellow now instead of purple and stands out much more because of this. The blue of her shorts sort of give me pause; I never really noticed them during the show, but looking at them now I think the blue is a strong color. I think it’s the most saturated of her clothes here. But since I didn’t notice it before it can’t have been too eye-catching. Maybe it’s because they’re so short and mostly covered by her cute sweater.

Well, that’s all for part one, part two will be about her Cure Forms! Thank you for reading and until next time!

A Look at Character Design: Ciel Kirahoshi (Update)

Hey guys! Looks like I’m here to talk about Ciel’s design again. Or more accurately some new clothes design for her since her winter design is out. I was planning on doing another one of these for her movie look but I couldn’t find a solo version of the girl’s movie power up.

But I couldn’t find anything. So I’ll look at that later once I examine it more. Anyways, onto what I do have. Her winter designs!

The very first thing i want to say is that this shade of turquoise does a much better job of showing Ciel off as the Green Cure. I know turquoise is a kind of in between color but as far as her own signature color I think this shade works better overall.

The overall shape of her silhouette is a little different, the way her skirt and coat flows out from her body is closer to where her waist is. As opposed to her first civilian outfit which flows out from near her chest or just under it. Her jacket, gloves, boots and outfit all fit the winter season very nicely. I also really like that they kept the pink bow as a part of her outfit, a different bow obviously, one that follows the shape of her hair; just a very nice touch.

Now a very, very quick look at her movie designs.

The first is her Patisserie uniform which I don’t have much to say about. It’s a cute kind of maid /baker design and I like the colors used for it.

The design in the middle is the biggest departure from what we’ve seen before. She’s got some brown in her outfit. That’s new color on her. Her silhouette is also more straight than her other ones. The clothes under her jacket are a bit more difficult of see so I can’t really comment on them.

Her final design brings her back to something similar to her TV design. The colors here look a bit brighter than her other designs but her dress is nice. The shawl is a nice touch to bring home the fact this is a dress for a party of some kind rather than like…a she’d normally wear. I’m not sure if I like the yellow bow in the center. Especially since this shade of yellow is pretty strong. She has a pink sash, with possibly a bow in the back, and I think that would have been better without the yellow bow, and it would match her shoes.

These designs of hers are good, especially the one with her winter coat. After this the next character I’m going to be looking at is my favorite character from Go! Princess Precure. So look out for that.

Let me know what you guys think!

A Look at Character Design: Ciel Kirahoshi

Hey! Mizz here with something a little different from my current stream of Maze Runner chapter reviews. Character design has been something I’ve always been interested in so I though I would look at some characters and try to explain why I like them or why I don’t.

The first character design I’m going to look at is Ciel Kirahoshi, aka Cure Parfait from Toei Animation’s Kira Kira Pretty Cure A la Mode.

The first look will be her civilian look.

The first thing I want to talk about are the colors used in her design. The main color seems to be turquoise, with two different shades. I think it looks really good, especially with the shade of yellow they used for her hair. The pink bow helps break up the turquoise and matched well with her shoes. The shape of her dress and hair are also in good contrast. It’s just very very cute.

One thing I think works better in her fairy form rather than her human form are the shines in her eyes. Like, the lack of irises is just kind of creepy to me.

The Shine in her eye simply looks better

Now I want to look at her Cure Parfait design.

This design is based off of the food Parfait and a Pegasus.

As far as capturing those two things go…I think it’s pretty decent. I don’t think she needed three pairs of wings, and yeah, those things on top of her head are probably supposed to be ears, but…they just look like wings on top of her head. The ones on her back and on her Sweets Pact case are a nice touch. The rainbow…tassel that hangs off the left side of her dress adds a nice splash of color, the rainbow being a kind of sub element for her. The little orange slice brooch is cute as well.

Now I do think the hat deatail is bad. It’s too but and I think it looks really ugly. Another part is that fact that I hate her shoes. I know they’re supposed to be based off house hooves, but I just hate the way they look.

Her colors are based off the main colors in her civilian form; turquoise, white, and pink. I think they work decently with each other, even though I think a lighter shade of blonde hair would have work best.

Now on to Cure Parfait’s A La Mode Style.

Parfait_A_La_Mode

The first thing that stands out to me is that the colors seem…lighter. I don’t know why and it could just be this picture I’m looking at. Plus, they changed how they draw her eyes. Seems like there’s more space between them.

I strongly dislike the fruit details on her dress. At least that huge orange slice and those grapes. Bad decision. The blue beads…or whatever near the bottom of her gown don’t bother me as much as the fruit.

The overall silhouette— minus the fruit— is really nice and the fluffy style of her hair is really lovely. The shoulder of her dress are nice as well, even though the collar is…unnecessary. Her parfait headdress is even worse here especially because she had this…fuzzy thing on her head. I do like the arm bands, I’m generally an arm band kind of person anyways.

Overall I’d call her designs: Good, Decent, and then Okay. I honestly haven’t watched the anime up to the point where she shows up so I can’t how this looks in motion (which may be the real test of if this design is good or not) but I hope you all enjoyed this little experiment of mine.
